Salmon oil vs. linseed oil

Both salmon oil and linseed oil are rich in essential fatty acids. These are fatty acids that the body cannot produce itself, yet needs to function normally. The main difference between salmon oil and linseed oil lies in the types of omega 3 fatty acids. Linseed oil is particularly rich in one type of omega 3 fatty acid (ALA), while salmon oil is rich in EPA and DHA in addition to ALA.

This ALA is most present in vegetable oil, while EPA and DHA are mainly found in animal oil. ALA fatty acids must first be converted by the animal into EPA and DHA to be used in the body. However, this process is quite inefficient, resulting in only a 5-10% conversion. The animal EPA and DHA omega 3 fatty acids can be used directly by the animal, meaning that the omega 3 fatty acids provided via salmon oil are utilized much more efficiently.

Feeding advice
< 450 kg:
High: 40 ml per animal per day.
Maintenance: 20 ml per animal per day.

≥ 450 kg:
High: 60 ml per animal per day.
Maintenance: 30 ml per animal per day.
